This wine is made entirely from blocks A and B on the Heysen Estate vineyard, the famous Kalimna 3C clone of Shiraz. The vineyard is managed differently by hard pruning the vines, and with no supplementary irrigation during summer, the berry size is extremely small, producing a very concentrated Barossa Shiraz. The fruit is harvested in the cool of the night and fermented in traditional small open fermenters for 7 days before it is pressed to barrel. Whistler only use French oak with this wine, giving a very elegant, yet structural backbone to this age worthy wine. 75% new French hogsheads, 25% seasoned French hogsheads for 20 months prior to blending and bottling with minimal filtration and no fining agents. The pinnacle of our vineyard and winemaking efforts from the classic 2012 vintage. This wine reflects the stellar 2012 vintage with its classic black pepper and plum aromas. Loads of dark fruits, mocha and elegant oak characters on the palate lead to a soft, smooth finish that lingers. WINEMAKER Troy Kalleske and Josh Pfeiffer
